Hello!
I’d like to share the news that my dear patrons have just helped me smash the next Patreon milestone, which means that I am now earning enough to be able to go part time with my day job in order to produce more painting tutorials!
I have already signed a fresh contract at work agreeing to give up my current responsibility as Head of Department and to have my hours cut back, and although the change won’t happen for a couple of months I’m already working extra hard to begin doubling my output which means you can expect one video every two weeks from me instead of one per month.
The beauty of the Patreon model is that I don’t have to rely on accepting advertising or commission offers in order to generate a meaningful income (and I have turned down several, including two recently Kickstarted board games that wanted me to create videos with their miniatures); I can simply carry on producing the videos that I enjoy working on and that my patrons want to see the most.
So I offer my public thanks to all of the viewers who have taken that small but important step of becoming a patron. It is a privilege for me to produce videos for you and I hope I can continue creating content that you enjoy for as long as I can.
How long will it be until I hit the next milestone and go all-in producing one video per week? Perhaps not that long…

Speaking for myself, and I’m sure most of your supporters would agree, if you have a sponsorship opportunity come along and it’s a game you believe is a good product I see no problem with you taking it. Supplemental income from such sponsorships can only be a good thing for the channel and would likely improve the non-sponsored videos as well. Provided of course it is kept to a reasonable degree of frequency and doesn’t become your primary video format.
Regardless though, do what you think is best and what makes you happiest of course.

I agree, there are some interesting games around at the moment and you are teaching the techniques rather than providing a blueprint for how a particular model has to be painted.
You wouldn’t even need to make tutorials out of them, if the job is just to produce some painted miniatures so the company can show off their board game then why not? Could be a nice earner. (Particularly if it is something like the new Labyrinth board game)
I don’t think anyone is going to hold you to a particular schedule and i am sure there will be quiet times between new releases when you can work on side projects that interest you.
I am so glad to see my favorite youtube painter deliver more content . Also congratulations achieving something you enjoy doing. Are you going to expand your painting to other minis other than board games such as Warhammer fantasy / 40k or the new specialist games GW are releasing ? ( Bloodbowl 😀 )
Thank you! I will ultimately be broadening my content, and although I went off GW a few years ago I am a little more intrigued by the direction they are now heading. And did you say Blood Bowl!? That was a childhood classic for me.. 🙂

Thanks to your videos I decided to paint minis (i own descent) and achieved great results. Btw, i hope this increased frequency means more descent tutorials, my awesome syndrael is feeling lonely as im saving the heroes for the tutorials while painting monsters

Checking in the new website to congratulate you on the milestone. I’m looking forward to your future content, of course. For Descent, it would be absolutely awesome if you rotated between the various classes of heroes (we already got a superb fighter with Syndrael), so we can build a polyvalent painted team as soon as possible…
I’ve decided to paint my Descent monsters on my own, trying to put to good use what I’ve learned with all the IA videos, but wait for your tutorials before I tackle the heroes (one thing I’m really not good at being mixing paints in a creative way to stay true to the source material).

From the base game, Jain Fairwood, Leoric of the Book or Ashrian would all be awesome choices, I like their character arts a lot.

First, I want to reiterate what so many other have said and compliment you on your wonderfully detailed, nuances, and well produced videos. I’ve watched them all and learn new things each time!
What impresses me most however is the way you interact with your community. The fact that you take time to respond to comments, ask for suggestions, and incorporate your audiences feedback is really outstanding. And while this will undoubtedly become more difficult as your audience grows, let it be recognized that you’re making efforts while you still can. Cheers mate, and thank you!
Thanks a lot Murray! It does take time to respond to people but I figure it’s the least I can do if someone has taken the time to make a comment. You are of course right; it will take longer to do as things develop but I don’t underestimate the importance of connecting with viewers – and I do actually enjoy it so I plan to schedule time to try and keep it up 🙂 Thanks again!
