Coming Soon for April/May

Hello!

With the extra time I’ve had off from my day job this month I’ve been able to make a good head start on production.

I have already completed filming the next Zombicide: Black Plague tutorial and will be editing hard to complete the video within the next week. (You can probably tell from the teaser image above which miniature is being featured!)

I’ve also completed some color tests for the next Imperial Assault tutorial which will feature C-3P0 and hopefully R2 as well!

Finally, patrons are currently submitting their votes for the next Descent tutorial and although the voting is still open it looks like Leoric Of The Book is going to be up next 🙂

Happy Painting!

Sorastro.

Nice!!! Leoric will be my next hero to be painted after syndrael!
Congratulations on your achievements, keep it up!

Having never painted prior to viewing your imperial assault and descent tutorials, the amount of painting skills I have developed under your tutelage is unreal. That said, one skill that I feel terribly incompetent and under confident with is colour choice. Particularly after I see some of the outstanding and unconventional choices that you make, which turn out amazing.

I think I would really benefit from a tutorial that outlines your colour testing process that you mentioned. I know you are under the pump with your current production, but this is definitely something I would love to see in the future.

Keep up the fantastic work Sorastro.

Thanks a lot Thomas! Colour selection can be tricky. I know it doesn’t help but I tend to work fairly intuitively, and it all begins with really being sensitive to what you actually see in the source material. Go outside and look at a tree trunk for example and instead of assuming it’s going to be brown, see what tones are really there… If I can free up more time I’ll give some thought to making a video about it 🙂

I’ll second what Thomas said, a tutorial on colour selection would be great !

    I use this : http://trade.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/PaintBrushes_POS.jpeg

    But it’s not always enough…

Another thing that would be great in a future post (if you have time) would be some kind of “roadmap” with what you want to achieve on the various games you cover (not the specific order of models you want to paint, but just some insight). For example, with regard to Descent (which has a huge range already), do you plan to cover only heroes ? Lieutenants too ? Basic monsters ? Cover the whole base set then move to expansions ? For Imperial Assault, do you plan on covering models for which an existing tutorial would be a good base (like Kayn Somos, alternate pose Stormtroopers and Heavy Stormtroopers which can all be done using Stormtroopers and E-Web Engineer tutorials) ?

    I realize that’s a lot of questions… 🙂

    Regards,

Hi Etienne! Thanks for the great suggestions; I’ll happily address the “roadmap” questions either in a blog post here or over on Patreon 🙂

As someone who does quite well with monsters but fails horribly with humans, I have to say that I devour the human figure tutorials. I’ve never been able to get the faces to look good (zombies excluded) but the Syndrael tutorial has inspired me to give it a go. I also hope that at some point you do the Leia figure from Imperial Assault.
