Today I’d like to share a PDF Painting Guide for Carnage from Atomic Mass Games’ Marvel: Crisis Protocol:
My first concern when approaching Carnage was to ensure that I didn’t neglect the global pattern of light and shade (by getting distracted by the black veins running over the model), so as you’ll see in the guide, I begin by just blocking in the red tones, and ignoring the black.
The next choice to make when working with red is what direction to take the highlights – warm or cold (i.e. orange or magenta) – or somewhere in-between. I initially tried leaning towards orange because I was pleased with the look I achieved with Magneto (and it’s easy to rely on past approaches!), but then decided that a colder, more magenta look would be a bit more threatening, and capture Carnage’s character better…
I hope you find some of the ideas in the guide useful! Next up I’ll be finishing off the Spider Foes affiliation with a guide for Kraven the Hunter…
As always I’d like to thank my kind patrons on Patreon for funding these guides, and I’d also like to share an affiliate link to the Rosemary & Co Series 8 brush that I love to use. (I use the Size 2, “Short handle”). Thank you!
