Hello!

Today I have a trilogy of PDF guides to share with you, covering the three villains from the Dwellers in Darkness expansion to FFG’s The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth!

First up we have Ursa for whom I used the same approach as detailed in the Minions painting video for the Shadowmen, except I added a touch of Object Source Lighting to give the impression some kind of magical green glow:

Next up we have Ollie the Troll:

I painted Ollie quite quickly using the Contrast Colours, and aimed to make him quite distinct from the other trolls which I’ve painted in the series.

I continue to be impressed by how quick and easy it is to achieve some really interesting and subtle variations in tone using the Contrast Colours!

Finally we have the Supplicant of Morgoth:

I’ve not yet encountered him in the game yet but I guess he’s some kind of orc mage or necromancer, so I thought purple would be a fitting colour for the outer robe, and naturally I couldn’t resist blinging him up a bit with a nice magenta wand!

So that finishes the Dwellers in Darkness mini expansion – a pretty fun little trio I think!

I hope you find some of the ideas in the guides useful!  I’ll be returning to Journeys in Middle-earth in the New Year when I begin working on the Spreading War big-box expansion.

Until then, I have a couple more videos lined up before I take a little break for Christmas…

Wishing you all the very best wherever you are!

Sorastro.

PS I’d like to thank my kind patrons on Patreon for funding these guides, and I’d also like to share an affiliate link to the Rosemary & Co Series 8 brush that I love to use. (I use the Size 2, “Short handle”).  Thank you!

I’ve noticed you commonly load your brush to the ferrule, how has this effected the lifespan of your brushes? Or how do you avoid it splaying your bristles? I’ve learned a lot by emulating your style, and I have noticed loading the brush this way means fewer trips to the palette. Just wondering if you’ve noticed any negative effects. Thanks!
