Old Statues PDF Painting Guide

Hello again!

I have yet another PDF guide for you today which you can DOWNLOAD HERE, this time for a pair of statue miniatures.  These particular figures came with the the “Ruins of Osgiliath” scenery set by Games Workshop, but the colours and techniques used could of course have a wide range of applications.

Statues Complete

I actually bought the set many years ago but decided to paint the statues to use as scenic pieces when playing The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth.

When painting things like this I always like to look to nature and the environment for inspiration, so will often refer to photos I’ve collected over the years – such as this one which I shot at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris last year:

Paris StatueAs you’ll see, I’ve chosen to paint one statue to look like aged stone, and the other as if it were made of copper or bronze which has become  weathered with verdigris over time.

The techniques used are very simple, but I do find painting old, weathered textures like this a lot of fun, and I hope you do to!

Statues Complete-2Next up from me will be the Episode three of The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth painting series, in which I’ll be painting the Wights…

Happy Painting!

Sorastro.

PS Here’s an affiliate link to the Rosemary & Co Series 8 brush that I love to use. (I use the Size 2, “Short handle”). Thanks!

I’ve watched some of your videos in the past, but became a real fan with the LotR Journeys in Middle Earth series. Fantastic tutorials! Looking forward to the rest of the series! Thanks a lot 🙂

This is an excellent tutorial with absolutely perfect timing. I am working on a 54mm mini as a statue for a 28mm courtyard. Thank you so much for this!
