Today I have two PDF painting guides to share with you; one for Beorn, and the other for his alternate form – The Great Bear, both from the “Spreading War” expansion to The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth by Fantasy Flight Games:

Beorn is one of the heroes from the expansion that I’m most excited to try, what with his shapeshifting shenanigans!  You can see that I went for a classic “barbarian skin-tone” look with quite a bit of orange in the mix.  I also tried to balance the orange/browns with some touches of blue in the hair, and the blade of the axe:

For the Great Bear I looked at photos of actual black bears to get some of the ideas for the colours (for the face in particular):

I didn’t initially plan to use Contrast Colours for him, but after playing around a bit with the highlights and some light dry brushing, I felt that some thinned Basilicanum Grey was needed to tone things down and integrate the highlights, and I’m pretty happy with how he turned out!

But it was the face of course where I spent the most time:
